MASHI — Logo & Brand Identity Brief
Mobile app for learning spoken Egyptian Arabic | Freelance design engagement | Delivery: 7 days
1. Project summary
We are launching Mashi, a mobile application (iOS and Android) that teaches spoken Egyptian Arabic — the everyday dialect actually used in Cairo and across Egypt — rather than Modern Standard Arabic. We need a complete primary logo, app icon and minimal brand identity system, ready for App Store and Google Play submission.
2. The name
The app is called Mashi. In Egyptian Arabic, "mashi" (ماشي) is one of the most-used words in daily speech: it means "OK", "fine", "agreed", "it works" — and literally, "walking / going". It is a word every learner hears on day one. The name is therefore about progress, momentum and everyday fluency. The mark should feel like forward motion and ease, not like an academic institution.
The wordmark is set in Latin script: "Mashi". Arabic script may be used as a secondary or supporting element, never as a decorative accident (see Section 6).
3. Deliverables
# Item Format
1 Primary logo — horizontal lockup (icon + wordmark) AI or SVG + PNG
2 Secondary / stacked lockup AI or SVG + PNG
3 App icon — standalone, legible at 1024 px and 29 px SVG + full PNG size set
4 Monochrome, inverted and greyscale versions SVG + PNG
5 Mini style sheet: colour palette (HEX/RGB), typography, clear-space and minimum-size rules PDF, 2–3 pages
6 All editable source files, full commercial rights transferred AI / Figma / SVG
4. Target audience
• Expats, professionals and students living in, moving to, or working with Egypt
• Travellers, and heritage learners with Egyptian family background
• Mainly 25–45, international, English-speaking, paying subscribers
• Positioning: practical, kids and adult, credible. This is a serious yet colourful learning tool with a friendly voice — not a children’s game and not a corporate language school.
5. Tone and visual direction
• Modern, clean, confident. Simple enough to be memorable at icon size.
• Warm and approachable
• Should read as specifically Egyptian, not generically "Middle Eastern".
• Avoid the clichés: genie lamps, magic carpets, ornate arabesque borders, speech bubbles with flags.
• Welcome, if handled with restraint: a nod to Arabic letterforms, Egyptian street/sign typography, or the idea of motion and walking implied by the name.
• Colour: your proposal. It must survive dark mode, greyscale and a crowded home screen. Avoid the saturated green/blue already owned by the main competitors.
6. Hard constraints
• If Arabic script appears anywhere in the mark, it must be correct, correctly connected and legible to a native reader. No decorative pseudo-Arabic, no reversed, disconnected or mirrored letterforms. Native or fluent verification is required before delivery.
• The app icon must remain recognisable at 29 × 29 px. No fine detail, no thin hairlines, no small text inside the icon.
• The mark must be clearly distinguishable from Duolingo, Babbel, Pimsleur, Mango Languages, Rosetta Stone and Kaleela.
• Must work in both LTR and RTL layout contexts.
• Must comply with Apple App Store and Google Play icon guidelines (no transparency in the app icon, correct safe-area and corner-radius handling).
• Fonts used must be licensed for commercial use, or open source. State which fonts you used and under which licence.
7. Process, concepts and timeline
Total duration: 7 calendar days from award. We ask for 3 initial concepts and 2 revision rounds on the selected direction — three distinct ideas explored properly, rather than many superficial variations.

M2 — Final All final files, style sheet, source files, rights transfer Day 7 50%
8. Budget
Fixed price: paid in two milestones of 50% when first set is approved, 50% at the end. Please do not bid on an hourly basis.
9. What to include in your proposal
• 3–5 relevant portfolio pieces — ideally app icons and/or bilingual or multi-script identity work.
• Two or three lines on how you would approach this specific brief. Generic copy-paste proposals will not be reviewed.
• Confirmation that you can meet the 7-day timeline.
• Confirmation of full IP and commercial rights transfer on final payment.
• How you will verify any Arabic script (native speaker, collaborator, or your own fluency).
• Answer this so we know you read the brief: in one sentence, what should this logo NOT look like?
10. Notes
• AI-generated or stock-template marks delivered without genuine editable vector source will be rejected.
• Concepts must be original and clearable for trademark registration; we may run a search before final acceptance.
• All material shared under this engagement is confidential until public launch.
