  May I ask you what is the mood that you are looking for the cover images? From what I have read in your requirements, I think the atmosphere is dark and threatening.

     Yes, dark, threatening, or perhaps gloomy. At the same time, the crystals can be a source of light that offsets the darkness some.

     Pixel art is fine, cartoonish is also fine. Feel free to submit any style, because as of right now there is not a specific style that I need.
     
     The game itself has a very pixel art look to it, but the images you create do not have to be that same style.
