Resumen del concurso

Looking for a creative, editable family tree design for 8 generations (changed from 14) beginning with one person. The design should easily show the next generation in order. Each person should have 5 lines to edit (for example: birth, death, occupation, notes) and a place for a photo of that person.

I saw the attached design of a family tree that looks interesting but would like to see a variety of totally different designs. Also, attached is an old world style map and image 6315 shows the color scheme that I like. This doesn't mean I want a map as the background, it just shows the overall feel and colors chosen.

Overall size should be 24”tall x 36”wide or larger up to 36” tall x 72” wide. It needs to be done in photoshop in layers so it can be edited and in AI files so it can be printed in various sizes and not lose resolution.

I’ve attached some old sailing ships I’d like incorporated. They can be separate designs to be inserted. I’ll provide exact photo of ship later. (It's a long ship and a Royal Arch that I would like incorporated.)

I will be VERY INVOLVED in this contest and will help guide you. I may also be willing to offer to buy additional designs after the contest ends. So, do your best job. All artists who provide designs that win or purchased later will need to relinquish all rights to the design which means ALL THE WORK, including the background, must be your work. I don't want any copyright issues and I want something truly unique.

FYI: I've spent many years creating my family tree going back 14 generations to the early 1600's. This project means a lot to me.

I may ask you to show me your design up close like in drop box or somewhere. Because this is physically a large design (up to 36" x 72" in size), and there are small areas within your design for various generations, I need to be able to see it WELL in order to judge it. I can't do that by a small screen shot of it. How it prints is very important to me, too. It must be good resolution. We can go over that privately so you are not submitting a bunch of zoomed in screen shot as an entry.

I will reject any entry that doesn't clearly show 8 generations. This will keep it simple and clear with all entries actually having 8 generations and valid for review.

Please use your imagination with this contest. I want something creative and EASY to follow each generation using the color schemes of image 6315.

I have now extended the contest 21 days. This should give everyone plenty of time to create their own background and the overall design. It also increases the guaranteed price that I will be paying.

Thank you for choosing to work on my project. I am honored you chose to do so and look forward to working with you. :)

Because I wanted to protect my copyrights to Suleyman's design and not let that out in public, I asked him to produce a 'Sealed Entry' submission. I want my design to be private and protected.

I want to tell you that was the most important project I've worked. I was looking to the brief before I join in and I was just couldn't believe how you worked to collect all of your 14 generations. So then I realised how much this is important to you and decided do my best of best. That wasn't something that I can throw a well painted concept into it I also had to try my best so I researched a lot to find the best structure. Your brief was clear so once I decided to the structure started painting according to the brief. I took my time because I diddn't want to hurry. After weeks of work finally I'm glad that I managed to do something that can represent your years of hardwork. Lastly I want to thank you for giving me opportunity to creating something didn't tried before and thank you for trusting me in a project that really means to you. From now on I'll be here everytime when you need any help. Thanks again!

With that said, I want to CONGRATULATE SULEYMAN for a job more than well done! His work actually brought me to tears with gratitude and immense appreciation! He did an AWESOME job and was great to work with all along, assuring me he could do anything - and that he did! I couldn't be happier!!! :) :) :) Thank you, Suleyman!!!!

This particular artist did something extraordinary and amazing - he hand-painted the entire background and much of the gorgeous structure of the tree, it's roots, trunk and branches. He put his heart and soul into it, knowing how much it meant to me and appreciated the many years and hard work I've spent on working on my family tree that goes over 14 generations in some parts and consists of over 20,000 people.

After I extended the contest for the past 3 weeks, one of the artist excelled and really pushed forward creating as many edits as needed.

So, this brought the contest back to some of the first artists that stood out; Surendra and Suleyman.

Mads, Anthony B and Hem R. entered the contest. While I appreciate their efforts so much, I wanted something more creative than creating a stamp-like form that included a photo and a few lines under it - and inserting that in branches of a tree. Unfortunately, none of their backgrounds were old world and it seemed apparent that most people were not looking at the photos I provided that showed color scheme and what 'old world' meant to me.

There were others who entered the contest. Suleyman entered just near the end of the first 2 weeks before I guaranteed the contest. At that point, I figured between the two artists, I would have a good design so that is when I decided to guarantee it - although Surendra was much further along with his design.

Then, Surenda P entered into the contest and knew right away how to create a family tree structure to include 8 generations. He continually made revisions including the Royal Arch and one of the ships that I wanted included in it. I guaranteed the contest based on his design - yet things went sideways and downhill for weeks after that.

Seyma Y did a neat design using an old map with dots leading to the next person. It was creative but a bit confusing. I appreciate her/his efforts at creating their design and revising it as well.

I asked for creativity and artistry for this project yet it had to be crystal clear to follow each generation. Unfortunately, this became a difficult task for many as the outer 7th and 8th generations became a challenge to include a much larger number of people into the tree without it looking crowded and/or not clear with the next generation.

I also had not guaranteed the contest as I've been burned by that choice before. It seemed that people didn't really need to work very hard because they knew I would be forced to choose a winner. While I have conducted quite a few contests, for the most part, I have guaranteed it once I saw the quality of the entries.

This project began nearly 5 weeks ago when I posted it as a 14 generation family tree. It was soon thereafter that I realized that many generations would not work well within the parameters of a print size I wanted to work with. So, I reduced it to 8 generations.

I started working on your project. I hope I can finish by the end of the week so you can appreciate my work. I chose a sheet size of 65 x 36 inches, but ran into a problem. There is very little space left for the eighth generation (the size of a photograph of a person in the eighth generation will be ~ 15-17 mm in height, I think this is very small). What do you think about this?

Hi. Since you extended the contest I took my time to finish it, sorry about that. Will upload it soon and after that will be available for any kind of modification to give you a five star entry.
This is a contest which needs creating original artwork and finding solution to fit all 8 generations to the tree with keeping it simple and easy to read. I think that's why there are not much participants. I looked up to internet and haven't seen any 8 gen family tree design or something. This probably is the first attempt.

Hello, because we are trying to create a nice family tree, but it going really huge, can I submit a draft with fewer generation as an example in order to work on it with your preferences?

You can submit a draft. It doesn’t do me much good to see it less than 8 generations. Adding the later generations can be challenging which is what I need to see. It will affect the overall design. So, you really need the 8 generations for me to really judge.

IMPORTANT INFO: Hi everyone! As you've probably realized, I have extended the contest 21 days which will give you plenty of time to create an outstanding design with all of your OWN work and it increases the amount paid to the winner.

Please note that I have edited and updated the contest with more details. You must read, understand and follow them. ALL of the work needs to be yours and in good resolution so it prints well. Final files need to be in Photoshop .PSD files(in layers) and .AI files.

I have worked on my family tree for many years. It currently has over 25,000 people going back to the 1600's. This is a VERY important project to me. It will be around for generations to come.

Thank you sooooooooooo much for working on this project. I am honored that you chose to do so. :) I look forward to the next few weeks and seeing what amazing work you can do! :) :)

Btw I'ld like to warn you about something. There are too many sealed entries and this increases your chance of getting scammed. Because if someone posted someone elses work or an internet image as a public entry, other freelancers will spot this and report to you. But like this most probably you might get scammed and even so if you pick an entry as the winner they might not be able to provide you a file that has enough resolution for printing. Because their work will be something has taken from google. I'm not telling that all these sealed entries has stolen artworks but this happens very frequently. Almost couple times in a week. Thanks..

Seyma. I've been working here for years and I've enough experience about this. What I said about resolution is: ''They can't provide you high res design because they will be probably stole that artwork from somewhere else.'' I am sealing my entries everytime I upload one too. That's not the point. I'm sorry but even Freelancer Stuff says to CH ''if a freelancer seals his entry and you award him/her wait before you sign the ip transfer aggrement to see if anybody will report it as a plagraised artwork.'' I know how people here use this entry sealing system to hide their crime. I'm experiencing this too much that I'm paying mothly to DMCA so I can report someone to them if I see plagraised artwork. Take a look to my profile. You'll see that I've been working here for a long time. So I got used to this situations. But I wasn't talk about your entries. I was suspected about someone elses entry. Not yours at all.

Can I ask you something? Do you prefer a circular tree design or something like this one here ( http://media.geneamurgia.se/2011/10/201.jpg ). Not exact the same of course. Just wanted to know which layout type could work better.

Hi. I just found this contest and will start to digital paint a good old world style tree that will match all of your expectations. I see that you spend years to form your family tree so I'll try my best to do something will match with it. I'm starting with 8 generations but if I won this contest I'll be able to expand it to 14. You can take a look to my portfolio to have an idea about the quality of my finished product. Thanks! Will upload something very soon.

It doesn’t look old world. It looks like a big log with tree rings. You can’t copy and paste things in there and think it’s old world. Did you look at the photos I provided with the project???? I don’t care for the round circle design like you have it. Definitely not old world style at all. Thanks for your efforts.
