Document Layout Project

Hello, SUMMARY The National Financial Educators Council (NFEC - [login to view URL]) is seeking a MS Word and, possibly, Adobe InDesign layout contractor to take text provided and generate well-designed layouts and visuals to accompany it. SCALE In total, there are about 10 documents ready for layout with approximately 10 more on its way from editing. Some are 1 page summaries or template emails. Others are 20+ page instruction training documents. OBJECTIVE All these documents are part of one large product we will be releasing later this year. Therefore, it is important that they share a common theme / branding. RESOURCES The NFEC will provide all edited copy in Word format. The NFEC also has a small library of 200+ stock images to select from that should suit any layout design you choose. A NFEC brand style guide will be provided. This guide provides the basic parameters of our brand. You will also leverage existing document and web page designs to understand our branding schema. Ultimately, there is no “Do it this exact way” document. We rely on your judgement and skill to make an appealing design that aligns with our currently visible brand. The NFEC will also provide you the 2 font type zip files we intend to use: PT Sans and Antic Slab MANAGEMENT To manage all these moving pieces, you will be invited to our project management platform: TeamWork.com. It allows for task based file and comment associations to help keep everything organized. I am the project lead for this task and will be your sole point of contact. (REMOVED BY FREELANCER.COM ADMIN) WORK FLOW We will start with a single, multi-page document as our beta test. Produce what you believe to be a quality first draft and we’ll have a bit of back-and-forth to brainstorm on what are the best common elements to share across all documents. Once we get the rough agreed upon, we’ll begin rolling onto the other documents, dealing with any inconsistencies as they come up. DELIVERABLES The first deliverable of these documents will be in MS Word in compatibility mode (shown as “97-2003 Word Document” in the save as dialog box’s file type dropdown). We may decide to expand to InDesign shortly thereafter. While we understand that Word is not the optimal tool for layout design, most of these documents will be delivered to our clients to be customized. Therefore, we need to rely on a readily-available and common program such as Word to deliver these documents to our clients. CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS We seek a contractor that can have discussions (REMOVED BY FREELANCER.COM ADMIN). It is exceedingly time consuming to have brainstorming or revision discussions via text alone. We are located in California, USA (GMT-8). We do not require constant or daily contact, but verbal communication will be needed from time to time. We will strive to schedule times for discussion that are convenient for both parties, but the NFEC does have fixed office hours and operates 8am to 5pm GMT -8, Mon-Fri. Therefore, you will need to have occasional availability within that timeframe and have a high proficiency in the English language. NEXT STEPS Please provide a few examples of design work you have done in the past in your reply. One page fliers or book covers are helpful, but is not fully descriptive in the context of this project. Any larger, multi-page layouts you have completed will be far more useful to us in gauging you talent. Please provide your hourly rate in your reply. As this project is some what fluid in the total number of documents to be laid out, it would be best for both parties to agree on an hourly rate as opposed to project flat rate. Thank you.
