I am looking for an experienced microcontroller programmer AND electronics engineer to use an Arduino PIC controller (or similar or one of your own) to operate one of 3 simple peripheral devices singly and in combination ( 2 are 12V and 1 is 120V) in response to change in any of these variables (1) clock or elapsed time; (1a) user defined time interval; (2) ambient temperature and (3) volume of a gas or fluid in a chamber.
The concept is simple enough that I could write "code" in old style Basic (if-then-go to) sufficient for a modern programmer to understand, but I am not C or PERL conversant.
My other problem is that I have literally no idea how "pins" work to send switching signals to remote devices from these microcontroller boards. I would not know a transistor from a resistor or capacitor! I understand that the pic controllers act as switches to cause devices to activate or deactivate in response to changing variables but I have no idea how one goes about "hooking them up" without frying the whole project and peripherals.
This is for the third stage of development of a potential new consumer product as part of a home automation package. The idea is mine and is over 20 years old. It is patentable. It is an invention that stems from "seeing and fulfilling a need" in my own life. There is no other product like it on the market. I have been encouraged by patent attorneys; SBA and small business development experts. This year as I enter retirement from a professional career, I have taken it from a very crude prototype to a fully functional version using custom built and off the shelf components. I have built 2 units. Both have been in my home working perfectly under some pretty "adverse" conditions for 9 months. But they are admittedly mechanical in nature and not-ready-for-prime-time.
I am lacking "computer control". My control system is now almost all electro-mechanical. I need someone to take all of my ideas and in the end come up with a wall mount controller that looks like a modern time/temp based thermostat, i.e. "if Temp =>55 then activate peripheral device A until Temp = 50 then deactivate peripheral device A" or "If time = time + 120 then activate device B for NN seconds". The controller needs to operate any of the 3 peripherals as needed. The successful consultant will provide the finished prototype controller and specs for larger volume production and a diagram "hook white wire from controller to white wire of device A" and "hook Blue wire from controller to Black wire on device B". I want someone who can communicate with me in non-technical plain English while also providing documentation that an IT pro or engineer would understand.
This product will require a small bit of software to ask set-up questions - set time, frequency and desired temperature. Thus I will need a keypad for user input and a simple alphanumeric screen as part of the user interface. I also think battery back up for the controller and peripherals package might be in order. My visionary wife has suggested USB, webcam access and internet access to the controller's function to change settings remotely First things first!
A binding Non-Disclose will be required to give potential partners further information. My intent is that this will be a MADE IN USA product. The ideal partner will be somewhere in the 5 state US Mid-west region to enable face to face meetings and demos but that does not exclude folks from around the world from consulting on it. There is always Skype!
Compensation could be by the hour or a contract price for a turnkey product meeting agreed specs or "piece of the action". I do not know what this is "worth" nor do you because you don't know what the project really "is". Please respond with something that indicates this is in your realm of experience.
