I have a messed up iTunes library and I want it fixed. Tonight I discovered that within iTunes on my PC (Windows 10) only 3 songs were showing for a full albulm I have. I confirmed that the songs exist in a folder on my hard drive. I have also "lost" other music in iTunes and want a rebuild using all music currently on my hard drive but without duplicates (there may be duplicate files on the hard drive, if so, I don't want to double import the same song just because there is a duplicate file on my hard drive.....). I have a mess also of files in different formats...... iTunes says I have just under 1,500 songs; a search for "music" on my hard drive reveals about 10,000 files (which includes artwork files, file folders, same songs different file formats etc.)
I am eager to learn how iTunes works behind the scenes so i can better manage things going forward and not find myself in this mess again in another few years.....
