Background: The front end of our site [login to view URL] was originally put together from a responsive HTML theme template [login to view URL]
We’re happy with the look, style and functionality although there are some areas which we would like to improve where possible.
On the whole the various pages on the site rank well and have respectable scores on Page Speed Insights & YSlow although there is of course always room for improvement. The pages which may be underperforming on Search Engines because of any code are the dynamic pages;

Our objectives are;
1. Ensure HTML, CSS and Javascript are as Search Engine Friendly as reasonably possible (no way to any black hat).
2. Further increase our page speed rankings Page Insights / Yslow
3. Remove any validation errors
4. Eliminate any cross browser issues (IE8 / 2009 onwards)
5. Get rid of any unnecessary Javascript or replace with CSS where possible
There are a total of 37 page templates using SmartyPHP (the .aspx extensions is URL rewrite to keep same URLs as previous site). We will provide an overview of all these pages to the chosen freelancer (a look at our sitemap in the meantime will surely suffice).
We ideally would prefer that you supply us with the amends to make ourselves and so we can discuss and understand edits. Unless you are based in the UK there is no way we’re giving you server access.
CSS – Whilst the CSS has now been minified (and some edits made directly to the minified version), there is a high degree of “bloat” and unnecessary styles which from the original template that are no longer required.
1. Remove any inline CSS from ~HTML
2. Site renders well on all browsers with exception of IE 8. Identify IE 8 issues, rectify and test for browser issues on IE 8 and above and 2009 The most apparent issues are:
a. Spacing of elements on page
b. White background colour in footer (should be #303030)
c. Badge classes don’t appear correctly for “Available”, “Under Offer” and “Sold” see [login to view URL]
3. Identify which CSS classes are being used and which are not over the entire site by using “CSS Usage” plug in for Firebug (or similar)
4. Eliminate all bloat / unused CSS classes and create error free, valid CSS file.
5. Minify CSS file supply for upload
HTML
1. Ensure all HTML is correctly implemented <html lang=en>
2. Replace any depreciated elements.
3. Correct use of <section>, <header>, <article> and schema tags to send best signals to search engines
4. Look at page structure with SEO in mind.
5. Ensure all pages validate. Worst offenders are most dynamic pages ([login to view URL] & [login to view URL])
Javascript
• Get rid of Javascript (Superfish) for main menu and replace with CCS only menu. For example [login to view URL]
• Deal with Javascript that is SEO unfriendly or blocking
• Look at replacing Carousel (blogslider) with script that dynamically loads images or deals with images in a more speed & seo friendly manner. This are user generated unique photos which Google seems to like so we want to make the most of them without needing all the images to load before the page renders. Min No. of images = 0 Max = 30.
• Is it also possible to replace Flexislider on homepage with CSS only alternative?
What does success look like?
Much improvement in Google Page Speeds and YSlow for dynamic pages
Small improvement in Google Page Speeds and YSlow across other pages
Clean, Tip-Top Code!
Freelancers must have an excellent command of the English language to ensure accuracy of work and prevent misunderstandings. We will want to communicate by telephone / Skype with the freelancer.
