At the moment, Android 8 and 9 will limit the app in background for save battery and performance. But I done with them. I can suggest you how to do with this app. We can use JobService and JobDispatcher for this. We can run a service for alarm with time interval in background even the user open the app or not. Good day! Your app seems pretty basic. You need an alarm applications, but without actually the sound and the fancy stuff, more like a logging for events. Hello, Based on your specs you can use the JOBScheduler framework (in order for it to work on older devices you will need a phone with google play installed). We can tell the job scheduler to start a background service that logs data. The only time it will stop logging will be when the phone will be on low battery. This should be the easiest approach to the issue. There are alternatives like using JobScheduler+Alarm manager for older devices or using an ongoing service that checks the time and logs.
