This portal is to accept text and graphics and display the text and graphics as an article which anyone can read from this website. The articles can be updated by the user (submitter) and then the older verions can be accessed by sitting behind the new versions with a type of tab format. We can consider this portal to be a type of sophisticated forum, which also allows users to vote on the articles.? Make commnets about the articles (including uploading images), and also vote on the comments. By the use of voting we can display a list of articles which have the most votes in given time frame, or have improved.? Likewise the most highly voted comments can also be highlighted and displayed in a specific location. Additionally by the use of the voting, it can act as a? monitor for the articles by automatically suspending articles which recieve too many negative votes.? (articles with too many bad votes are suspended and the administrator is alerted. Thus we keep the website clean with respectable articles and avoid people posting things that are insulting or rude. So the site requires 3 levels of users: Administrators Moderators Users (registered members) viewers (general public not registered) Users can post articles and vote on articles, moderators are viewers which have been given permission to suspend users or articles which they deem to be inappropriate. Administrators can assign moderators, delete articles,? remove users, etc. etc. The design of the site we want a first? class design, however,? this bid is for coding only, with a basic design.? If you have the abliity to design also, please ensure you? let us know that your design is also included in the bid. ? Also allow for 10-15% of changes or minor modifications or changes to the final setup and include this in your bid price. Additionally, the right coder who does an excellent job with this portal will be given the job of updates and additional features as further jobs. Only coders with a proven history of making web-site portals will be considers. ## Deliverables **? ** **DESCRIPTION** ? A website that will allow registered users to post articles.? Articles are posted into relevant subject categories.? We will have 8-10 categories which can be modified, edited or deleted. ? Each article posted is followed by a discussion thread that allows public feedback on the article. ? The articles need to be able to accommodate images in the articles and have attachments which can be any file type, diagrams, flash and possibly audio, video, etc., when articles are posted. ? Additionally images can be added to comments (comments are posted by any registered person about the articles.) ? ? ? **LAYOUT AND ESIGN OBJECTIVES** ? The design is not part of this bid, unless you tell us otherwise, and give us examples of your quality design capabilities. ? The layout and design of the ? website will be **Clean, Fresh and Simple**. While some fun & flair is encouraged the home page should not be too flashy or cluttered. Design elements including Flash should be subtle. ? I have made some draughts of the site to get an idea how it might look but the site doesn’t have to be any particular design, I am open to any ideas and suggestions. ? The most important aspects of the layout (and design) are that it **looks good but simple**, is **easy to navigate** and is **user-friendly for members**. ? ? **Background Color Scheme** **? ** I am interested in black or dark backgrounds for pages as I think these can look classy.? I have noticed on discussion pages that some people prefer light writing on a dark background and others prefer dark on light. ? Can we make the site as a duel background color site and users can choose which style they prefer with a simple click on an obvious button? Even if it is only the Article Posts and Discussion Threads that change color scheme as this is where most reading will be done. **? ** ? ? ? ? **Menu** **? ** The Menu is on the left side of the page and is where the content posted by members is accessed from. The Menu should remain in the top left corner of all pages for easy navigation. ? When articles are posted they are placed into one or more of the categories listed. Articles may be duel listed if they relate to more than one category. ? When the cursor passes over a Category Title the category list expands to show all articles listed. For example, see menu list left hand side of, **[login to view URL]** **? ** **After an article has been selected and viewed from one of the Category Title pop-out lists in the Menu its color should change to indicate that it has already been selected, (unlike [login to view URL] where the items in the pop-out lists remain unchanged once selected).** **? ** **Note:? When people move the cursor in the rightward direction to expand the menu, we would like a slight delay, do that if the cursor moves up or down into another menu item, while in the process of expanding the menu, the user stays with the originally intended menu selection.** **? ** **As you will see with [login to view URL] as you expand out on the menu, it is sometimes easy to move the cursor slightly downward and you move away from your topic of choice.? This will fix will make it easier to use.** **? ** **Choosing one of the article categories form the menu will display the (pop-out) list of articles that exist in under that category, and to the right of each article, with a mouse over will display the brief description of the articles.** **? ** **? ** **Caption Box** **? ** Caption Box is space for a flash banner (to be made later) ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? **Top 10 Articles** **? ** On the home page the site will display the articles which have received the more votes or a higher percentage of votes, etc. ? In the administrator panel we want to be able to be creative and change the way the top 10 are displayed, by changing things such as number of past days to consider (e.g. only votes that are posted in the past 30 days….or 60 days, etc.) **? ** Additionally we will display the top 5 for each cateory. The top 5 can be displayed by having TOP 5 listed as the first menu item which expandes out from each of the main category items. ? The number of articles to display may not actually be 10 or 5, but is a number which the administrator can decide in the administrator control panel. **? ** ? **Posting Articles** **? ** Posting an article works a little bit like posting a job in [login to view URL] The format requests for text or graphics in various fields and windows, and then displays the text and graphics in a nice visual article. ? Before the article is submitted it can be displayed by the means of a display article, after the user is happy with the article, then they can submit article for final posting. ? The text windows must be able to accept text has been cut and paste from Microsoft word and keeping the formatting, in terms of? maintaining characters, not adding unwanted or extra formatting characters, maintaining paragraphs, and line spacing. **? ** Members who post articles can edit and expand their own original article so it can serve as a work in progress. ? Each version of an article from first submission to latest is saved and can be viewed by anyone. All versions of an article are time/date stamped and displayed as a listed below most recent version. ? At the bottom of each article is the comments area for that article and the option for visitors to add to the forum relating to that article. ? When an article is posted there are boxes in the submission form that represent each of the Category Titles that can be checked for the Categories the article is to be listed in. ? The user needs to select 1 or 2 categories where the job can be displayed. Articles with 2 selections will appear in both areas. ? If an article appears gets many votes, so it will be in the top 5 in both categories, the database needs to randomly (random, not picking one more than another), select one of the 2 categories to display in the top 5 list. ? The article can appear in the top 10 AND in the top 5, but not in the top 10 and both top 5 category list for which it was selected. This way the same article is not duplicated too much in the site. ? Before an article is submitted the author can click the Preview Button to see how it will look on the web site. Preferably there would be a live preview feature that allows the author to preview real time as they create their Submission. ? When submitting an article a non-member can join as part of their article submission form.? So the signup to become a member can occur anytime, but is also required just before submitting the article, (or to just login, if they are already a registered user) ? We want a word filter in the administration control panel where we can prevent the article from being posted.? We will enter the list of words in the control panel.? When the user goes to submit their article the words they cannot use will be highlighted and they will be requested to change those words.? This is to prevent rude words or insulting words being included in articles. ? **Membership** ? Membership is not required to view any content on the site. ? Membership is primarily for people who post their articles and allows them to edit their work. ? The site should be as open and accessible as possible but remain secure. ? Information required when joining should be minimal. ? ? **Discussion Thread** ? In the discussion thread that follows from an article there should be some kind of indicator that shows if the article has been edited during the forum. Some comments may become irrelevant if the article is edited. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? **Voting** **? ** Members will be able to vote on articles. Voting will be a choice of 1 to 5. Only after a member has voted on an article will they be able to see the total voting results for that article. Members will only be ably to vote on each article once per edition, however if they do not initially complete the advanced vote they can do this at a later date. ? When an article is edited by its creator then a separation is made in the voting for that article. This will allow votes for each version of the article to be viewed separately so improvements to the article will show in voting. ? However, only the lastest version can be displayed the top 10 or top 5 lists.? Thus the idea is never duplicated in the top 10 or top 5 lists by previous versions having many votes. ? It will be possible to view a chart that compares the different voting outcomes of each edition of an article. ? An advanced voting option will allow members to vote on quality of content. They will score various criteria from 1 to 5. This will give the author greater information on the strengths and weaknesses of their article. ? The voting will be used to create best of lists. Lists may include, Top 5 most popular, Top 5 most improved, Top 5 for each category. ? Users cannot vote on their own published articles, and can see the voting totals without having to vote. ? Users can vote on comments.? Each comment can also be voted on with 2 options (like or dislike). ? The TOP comment with the most number of positive votes (votes that are good or great) is featured above all the other comments with a title:? MOST LIKED COMMENT. ? Any comment that receives more than an adjustable amount (ie. 70% dislikes in at least 20 votes) of dislikes is automatically deleted (with the option to turn off or on this automatic deletion to specific suspended and manual deletion). ? The top featured comment (or comments) will display the number of likes and dislikes that they received. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Comments will be displayed in order of oldest to be listed at the top of the page.? However, a button at the top of the comments will change the comments to display in newest to oldest. ? In the user control panel the user can select how comments are displayed for them, newest by default or oldest by default. ? The comments for each version of an article is viewed under that article. Comments of 30 can be put into pages (page 1, 2, 3….) etc. Where you can click to view the any page or the next page. ? Control panel also allows you to alter the number of pages. ? ? **Thoughts and questions** **? ** This menu item works somewhat like a regular forum where people can post threads and make comments etc.? It is an area where a single question may be asked, as a thread instead of a whole article being submitted. ? ? **Communications** ? Every time a comment is made on any article, an email needs to be submitted to the author (user) of the article, with the article included in the email. ? Users can also select to receive alerts for new articles in any given category.? Or, they can chose to receive an email alert for any article in any category that has a certain number of votes, or % of positive votes above a given number of total votes (ie. 90% of positive votes above which has received a total of 30 votes). ? ? ? ? ? **Control Panel** ? The control panel will allow users to change their details, such as password, email or display name. ? The control panel also allows users to setup email alerts, to decide or not to decide to receive emails for comments on their articles. ? ? **Layout** ? Attached is a number of pdf documents which I have made to better illustrate some of these concepts. Some items mentioned above are not included in these pdfs, in particular the control panel for users, and some menu items. ? ? **Additional capacity.** If someone clicks on this button, then an email alert goes to the administrator so that we can read the article and then give them unlimited use of adding text or graphics, by selecting an add graphic or add text button at any time (instead of a set number of text and graphic buttons). ? ? ? ? ? ? ? **Save as draft**.
