MySQL Error - Upgrading MySQL from 5.5 to 7 did not work.

Currently installed: 10.2.18-MariaDB
Upgrading MySQL from 5.5 to 7 did not work.
Then
Upgrading MySQL from 7 to 10.2.18-MariaDB did not work.
MySQL seems unresponsive to start, or take backups in SSH. I am unsure how to successfully reinstall MySQL while keeping 60 cPanel WordPress websites live.
# service mysql status
ERROR! MariaDB is not running, but lock file (/var/lock/subsys/mysql) exists
# rm /var/lock/subsys/mysql --force
# service mysql status
ERROR! MariaDB is not running
# systemctl start mariadb
bash: systemctl: command not found
