Server-side script for [login to view URL] API

Hi!
I need a PHP or Perl script that reads the [login to view URL] API, pulling events from a given list of groups. This should be easy.
Please note, this is a server-side script. I want to be able to run it on UNIX with a cron job without any website. Nobody is using a web browser. This is simply running on the server side and creating a JSON file.
I like Perl but I guess PHP is the cool thing to code this in. Do not use Javascript. There is no Javascript because there is no browser. This is server-side.
