Kubernetes Administrator

ThinkData, a startup offering analytics services is looking for an AWS EKS Administrator to establish robust, automated Kubernetes systems based predominantly on cloud platforms and open source distributions—notably AWS EKS. You are familiar with cloud platforms, such as AWS' EKS and EC2; have a familiarity with typical engineering environments involving CI, version control, and monitoring; and you relish the challenge of expanding your skills into new application domains by prioritizing required functionality within customer timelines. As ours is a distributed team, you are flexible, comfortable working on your own, and proactively in touch with your peers. Responsibilities • Collaboratively design and size Kubernetes system architectures • Install, configure, and manage applications and cloud capabilities (especially EKS) • Automate repetitive tasks such as backups and system patches • Secure and upgrade our applications and systems • Research potential improvements, alternatives, and practices to better our environment and accelerate our future work • Ensure the technical feasibility of system designs • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders • Assure a high degree of quality in your delivered work Skills And Qualifications System Administration Ability: • Administration Expertise: • Proficient understanding of cloud platforms, especially AWS' EKS, EC2, and VPC • Understanding of Linux platforms as applied to AWS EKS solutions • Understanding of Linux and cloud system automation, ideally with Terraform • Understanding of security strategies for applications exposed on the Internet • Familiarity with typical IT continuous integration, metrics, and versioning systems • Familiarity with typical IT monitoring solutions in the spirit of Prometheus and Grafana • Back-End Expertise: • Understanding of HTTP and Reverse Proxy servers, such as NGINX • Basic understanding of Python and Web server frameworks, such as Flask • Basic knowledge of WSGI and Python app integration into HTTP Servers • General Engineering: • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, especially Git • Comfort documenting solutions via a combination of online notes, engineering diagrams, screen shots, and simple videos of actions • Comfort interacting with distributed teams, including the use of collaborative meeting solutions such as Zoom, WebEx, or Skype • Basic comfort querying NoSQL and SQL databases Education and Years of Experience: • Degrees and Certificates: • A bachelor degree or better in courses emphasizing Cloud technologies, OR • Certificates indicating proficiency in Kubernetes, Linux, AWS, networking, Python, etc. • Experience: • An emphasis on system administration over the recent year, ideally with examples of implemented solutions (software, backups, security, etc.) • Experience working in an iterative development scenario to design/build/test/deliver incremental value • Proficient: Linux, AWS, cloud based networking and similar • Capable: systems design, engineering tools such as git, system automation, browsers for Mac OS X, Windows, and mobile platforms • Familiar: Linux, AWS, EKS, EC2, AWS VPC, WSGi, Terraform, IT engineering environments
