Greetings, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA!
I have been proofreading, copy editing, and rewriting all manner of text since 1984. I learned the basics at my very first job as a proofreader for the Farwell Publishing Company, which compiled, typed, printed, and delivered the weekly, rural county newspaper, The Farwell News & Review. In 2014, I launched my own editing, copywriting and publishing company, WeaselWorks Editing, Copywriting and Publishing. There, I have edited six manuscripts, designing and formatting the interior of five of them, and personally walked four of them down the aisle to publication as print, e-book, or both.
I have a wide range of interests, including philosophy and the arts; history and social sciences; mathematics, technology and engineering; and medicine, biology, genetics, and other life sciences. I am also a voracious reader of sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, all things Stephen King, and the King James Bible. The vast majority of my past editing and copywriting work has been in the realm of poetry, biographical, and corporate.
I am studious, knowledgeable, and have an expansive vocabulary, all traits of critical importance when the outcome of your VIP (very important project) is on the line. Whether the subject matter is literary, academic, technical, or business-oriented, I guarantee a working comprehension of your needs, or the ability to become versed in a matter of moments. Moreover, I promise to meet or exceed your expectations with regard to communication, and the successful completion of your VIP is a forgone conclusion – "a result that can be predicted with certainty."
Born and raised in the American Midwest, I have complete native language fluency in US English. Idioms, slang, and even most local dialects come naturally to me. I am also quite fluent in UK English.
As an editor, my greatest strengths are my attention to detail, my ability to discern your meaning and help you find a better (clearer, more concise, and therefore more dynamic) way to convey it, and my ability to correctly employ the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of the English language.
I truly enjoy "wordsmithing," sentence structure and compositional editing, and I excel at the intricacies of punctuation and capitalization. An "eagle eye" since my youth, I am ruthless on typos, and errors of all kinds virtually throw themselves at my feet.
Having said that, I respectfully honor poetic license, and the author's voice reigns supreme in the VIPs in my care. The customer's vision is always at the forefront of my mind. If you need a piece thoroughly vetted, reviewed with a fine-toothed comb, edited or rewritten with precision – if you need a job done correctly, in other words, especially to certain specifications – I am the freelancer for you.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to applying my 38 years of experience to your VIP very soon.
