HEDUZA is a free health information platform available to all via the Internet. HEDUZA is also available on HEDUZA touch panels in waiting areas of maternity clinics at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, Elias Motsoaledi clinic and Senaoane clinic in Soweto. HEDUZA stands for Health Education South Africa. It is a collaborative project between the University of Cape Town and integerafrica, a South African non-profit company that provides IT solutions for medical research. This project was initiated in 2011 by Professor Karen Sliwa of the Hatter Institute for Cardiovascular Research in Africa of the University of Cape Town, Dr. Friedrich Thienemann and Christiaan Diedericks of integerafrica. The HEDUZA project has been developed using only free and open source software empowered by the phenomenally versatile and powerful, Ubuntu 12.04 desktop and server operating system, Drupal content management system and the The Chromium Project open-source web browser.
