I am looking for someone who is proficient in reading / writing (Gurmukhi) and speaking in Punjabi. I require someone who is a great graphic designer and illustrator as well. The full project is a book to learn Gurmukhi alphabets, basic words and sentences for kids. I need the book to be colorful, bright, and represent the Punjabi culture to it’s fullest. This contest is just to see properly designed 2 sample pages of the full book. This contest is worth $40 but the full book will be $160 more. So once I pick a winner for this contest, I will automatically pick them for the full book project.

The full book description is as follows:
I need a freelancer who can read and write Punjabi fluently. A 20-30 page basic teaching on how to write in Punjabi. There will be a few sections so if the book needs to be more pages, we can discuss.

The first section will be on all the alphabets of Gurmukhi (Punjabi), with colorful images for kids and a quick phonetic translation in English.

The second section of the book should show how to form basic words and sentences in Punjabi with phonetics in English for a non Punjabi speaker to easily understand what the words mean and how they sound. Each letter can be used 2 times in the entire sentence. For example the sentence “ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਂ ਰੋਮਾ ਹੈ।” contains ਮ and ਰ twice. This is ok. If it contains a letter 3 or more times, that won’t be acceptable. The sentences should not be more than 4-5 words max. 4 words is better. Try to incorporate daily basic skills sentences, daily basic needs, things related to hygiene, names of fruits, and vegetables, house pets, parts of body, close relationships. The focus is on teaching Punjabi and some things about Punjabi culture and it’s basics. For example, the five rivers, the capital, the currency, the culture, the agriculture, the farm animals, the clothes, the warriors, the famous cities. Maybe a small map of India and showing where is Punjab on it would be nice for the last page.

The third section should be for some activities and tasks. Possibly ask the reader/ learner to do some writing exercise with the letters. Things like write your name, etc.

The last page of the book should just be lined for the student to be able to write a few words and tear off the page and be able to mail to the publisher. I would like to hear from these kids and their parents on how useful the book was for them to learn Punjabi.

The back cover should have a summary of the book, some beautiful images of Punjab, and our contact info. This info will be made available later.
