Convert/Format 176pg (25,600 words) PDF to 3 formats: .epub, .mobi and to Lightning Source print ready PDF.
I have a book, whose republishing rights I have acquired, and I need an appropriately experienced contractor to produce the new files in three forms: .epub, .mobi and a Lightning Source print-ready PDF, to fit the closest suitable standard LSI paperback trim size, which I’m guessing will be 5.06 x 7.81 (129cm W x 198 cm H) or 5.25 x 8 (133cm x 203cm). I'm happy with whatever similar/close trim size makes the job easiest. It just needs to be one of LSI's standard sizes reasonably close to the original.
The source file I will provide is a professionally scanned PDF of the original hardback text version (176pgs in the 5.3”W x .7” thick x 7.5” tall trim size). The scan was completed by 1Dollarscan. All the pages have been optimized, straightened, cleaned up, OCR. It was subsequently put into Adobe Acrobat, and the edits to the title page have been completed, reflecting the new publisher details. The contrast is good on the scanned file, but I don’t know exactly what is involved in getting the current file to a professional print level or for the eBook conversion, but I doubt the file could be reprinted 100% as is at the necessary letter quality to pass the Lightning source test, and I assume that hand-adjustments of some kind will be necessary. Choosing a font that approximates the current one(s) should be fine. By the way, This project does not require doing anything with the cover (for print or eBook). I will be doing the book cover separately.
Completion of the project will be defined as receipt of professional quality .epub and .mobi files along with the lightning source print-ready PDF. My preference would be for a contractor who will use Adobe InDesign software and provide me the final InDesign file with the .epub and .mobi and LSI-ready PDF. But I am also willing to consider someone who will use Microsoft word for the process, and follow the LSI 7-page instruction guide for using MS Word to produce the final print-ready PDF, for example. The MS Word option may prove to be just fine for me, especially if it increases my options for getting the job done well, and/or improving the price point. With your bid, please also address your relevant experience, and which process (InDesign or MS Word) you would use. But in all cases, I absolutely need someone who has produced the print-ready PDF for Lightning Source before. They have very specific requirements for what is accepted. I am only interested in working with someone who is able and willing to do the job professionally, including checking the font spacing, justification and any line-ending hyphen-correction that is necessary. This is not a job for tossing the existing PDF through someone’s conversion meat grinder, doing a quick scan-over edit and calling it good. I assume every page will need to be looked over. I need a professional level result, that is mistake free. I am a publisher, have more of these jobs, and am looking for a go-to partner or two, to whom I can return on a regular basis. By the way, speed of delivery is not a requirement. I don’t need this done in 4 days. I just need it done well.
