X tanks can transfer via pump(s) and valves (on -off or two ways) to Y destinations. Some pumps are common for some tanks some are dedicated. Same philosophy for valves. The number of valves involved in a transfer is not fixed. There are more than one path that will achieve the transfer. The algorithm will have to determine if a) there is an available path, b) if more than one, pick the short path; c) mark used devices as owned by the current transfer. This will be something similar to navigating from point A to point B avoiding blocked roads. I will provide a sample diagram showing tanks that are sources and existing paths to destinations (destinations may be tanks - from the same pool but with different entry points, or other type of destinations). To get the project awarded, the candidates will have to show a sample of simple algorithm that will (partially) achieve the goal of the project.
