The nature of what I say may automatically preclude me from consideration - I would rather that if it saves you money. You have specifically asked for an editor, not a proofreader. I can virtually guarantee you will get a proofread passed off as an edit. Editing isn't about checking spelling and rephrasing the occasional sentence. It is about reading the whole book before even starting to do any other work. That should then be followed by a full critique of the work to identify the strengths and weaknesses within the content. This should include characters' descriptions, timelines, flow and style of writing, The critique should them be discussed so as to ensure that when editing begins, all discussed alterations are incorporated. The edit should then involve any rewriting, and careful attention to wording and phraseology. The edit should then be submitted to you in Word 'trackchanges format' so you can both see any suggested amendments and choose to accept or reject them. Only once the editing process is complete should the final proofread be done and never togwther - this is to check for any spelling and grammatical errors, faulty punctuation, not to rewrite any text. That is the correct way to edit a book and in my experience it will take a good month to do - not because the editor spends 160 solid hours working on it, but because a successful editing requires considerable two-way dialogue, and that can be time consuming.
