Commandline tool (C++) to launch files from an URL
$30-100 USD

I need a tool to run on Windows XP that allows to launch files that are stored on a WebDAV server: webdavhelper [login to view URL] 2006/Report on Test (Peter's edition).doc 2 caveats: - When you launch a commandline in XP with http:// the webbrowser is launched --- this is not what I need. I need the application. Must be generic (means: whatever extension it is, if windows knows/has the executable the document must open) - Spaces and special characters are contained in the URL (of course only those that are legal for file names). Clarifications: --------------- - We are looking for a native tool. .net as runtime requirement is not acceptable. - If you are not sure how things work: Tomcat comes with a webdav implementation. You can link to a webdat server using Webfolders (a Explorer feature). When you doubleclick on a file you see in the webfolder if will open the application (if the application supports webfolders). Explorer can figure this out, so there must be a function call (in [login to view URL]) to make that call. Also when one rightclicks on a file there is a Open item if opening from a webfolder is supported. I just need this behavior from the commandline. Option (extra pricing): If the file can't be opened from the url open Explorer (not Internet explorer) into the containing folder.

Thx for all biddings,
a few clarifications:
1) We are looking for a native solution without dependencies on ActiveX or .NET.
2) The application MUST open the file from the URL, download and open in temp is not acceptable (our URLs are webDAV enabled, so you can press save and Office will save the file straight back to the URL)
3) My guess it that you can use Shellexecute (see [login to view URL] ) However test in dotNet showed when the file location started with http:// or https:// Internet explorer was launched. Eventually the native [login to view URL] method works differntly or is different.
4) If you want to try you can use Tomcat it comes with a webdav implementation (you need to reconfigure the [login to view URL] to allow read/write). Connect to the URL in Explorer Webfolders a nd you can open/edit office documents and a series of other programs. Not every program supports webdav. Webfolders "knows" that and offers "open" in the right click menu only if it would work (dde?)
5) in Office (MS Office or OpenOffice) you can use File-Open and type an URL to a office document. If the URL is webdav enabled it will save the document back to the URL when you hit save
6) In office you can do [login to view URL] or [login to view URL] and give an URL on the command line (put it in quotes if spaces are in there). However in Excel you get errors if there are special characters.
Please ask further questions to clarify!
