Extending an existing Magento Analytics Extension (additional product property)

We have a Magento 1 Extension that integrations the econda Web Analytics tracking JavaScript Code to Magento Shops. This extension tracks page views and product events. This project is about extending the data transmitted in these product events. Available product events are: * view (detail page) * add to cart (user added a product to cart) * buy (user bought a product) The data for each event looks like this: { type: 'view', pid: PRODUCTID, => Article number of main product sku: SKU, => Article number of variant name: NAME, price: PRICE, group: GROUP, count: COUNT } In our current implementation is the "sku" property not available. The reason is, that the current implementation is not "variants aware". "Variants" are defined as variations of one "main product". Example: * T-Shirt "Beach" => "main product" * T-Shirt "Beach", Size: XL => "variant" (of main product "T-Shirt Beach") At the end of this project, product data should be tracked as follows: ** product detail view ** { pid: Article number of main product sku: empty name: Name of main product ... } Notes: We don't know which variant the user views so we do not track the sku. ** product add to cart ** IF IS VARIANT (e.g. user added T-Shirt with Size XL to cart) { pid: article number of main product sku: article number of variant name: article number (of main product, no variant specific additions) ... } IF NOT A VARIANT (e.g. user added "Headphone HP-430" to cart) { pid: article number sku: article number (same as pid) ... } ** product buy ** Sames as add to cart event.
