Merge in Stata help needed

I am merging two datasets in Stata and need help. This data is yearly country-directed dyadic disputes. So there are two sides. If the US fights Germany in 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945, there are 10 observations for this (US-Ger 1941, US-Ger 1942, and so on as well as Ger-US 1941, Ger-US 1942, and so on). I then have two datasets that I want to merge onto the master data. This is the kilometers distance between pairs of national capitals (say, between Washington, DC and Berlin) and then another dataset that merges a dummy variable indicator onto if there was a civil war in any country within a given year. These should both be a many to many merge ({merge m:m ccode1 ccode 2 year using "pathway"} and {merge m:m ccode1 ccode2 using "pathway"}). The issue is that when I am doing it and dropping those observations that do not merge into the master dataset (directed dyadic yearly observations), it is creating new observations somehow and I don't know how to identify and drop those new observations that are somehow getting created. It should be a pretty straightforward problem but I'll need the code to see how to deal with this in the future.
I have attached the files below. The master dataset that needs everytheing merged into it is called "20202jcrdata".
