Hi; Scraping 8500 posts is not a great deal. It all depends how good the code is. With proper implementations like garbage collection, server utilization will be minimum; so I can even use my own server to scrape the pages. Record insertion is another one. WP has some internal functions to "properly" insert posts - directly inserting to db is much tedious, as it will involve updating very much fields without a mistake, or the post / category / image associations will go horribly wrong ! This insertion scheme is the thing that really consume resources, but with proper / delayed insertions, its not a big deal, too. I've done this so many times that I'm very confident about the project. One another approach is, I can give you a complete db in .sql format, which you can import directly via phpmyadmin, or a better alternative as mysqld, if you have a VPS or a fully configurable server.
