Suggestion: (it is not pretty clean what is a purpose of the device, maybe that will not be very helpful to you, nevertheless) it could make sense to use moving average filtering method - bring up last 512 samples As far as I got, you have your accelerometer connected to Arduino board, and you are sending the data to Raspberry Pi board by UART, is that correct ? My bid (both time and price) is based on this idea, so before we will proceed, it make sense to confirm if that is the case. P.S. Of course the best performance you can reach by getting rid of arduino board (and use some other microcontroller - microchip, stm, renesas - whatever), or at least get rid of Arduino libraries (the board only with some primitive libraries needed to do the job; atmel microcontroller is not one of my favorite, but you need no extra hardware in this case. However, you'll need some commercial programmer to flash it, Atmel MK2 for example), We can discuss any of these approaches as well, if you feel it make sense. The fair and good feedback (aka review) is also very important for me.
