KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL-based applications and systems according to project requirements. • Write, test, debug, and deploy COBOL code to meet project deadlines and quality standards. • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to COBOL applications, including performance optimization and error resolution. • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system design documents, program specifications, user manuals, and release notes. • Working closely with all stakeholders to resolve issues and implement improvements. JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Proficiency in COBOL programming language, with a minimum of 4 years of experience in application development. • Experience with mainframe technologies, such as IBM iSeries, LIFE/400, SMART/400, and DB2. • Experience with software development methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall. • Experience working with SQL. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a technical environment. • Good level of English language – both written and spoken. • Excellent communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Hello All, I am an IT Professional who is keen on automating processes, including automating those that I have to do, thus in automating programming activities. As an example, many years ago, for a company in White Plains, NY, I created a conversion program in IBM OS COBOL to automatically convert HP Mainframe BASIC codes with embedded IMAGE database into IBM VS COBOL II with embedded Static SQL and CICS statements. The conversion was good for 60% of the codes, and had helped cut the total project time quite significantly. Today, I should be able to create something similar better, in less time, due to more suitable tools and the more experience I have gained. I left my last full-time company almost two years ago to work as a freelancer on projects that I am interested in during my retirement. Yours looks interesting to me, hence this proposal.
