The island is currently powered by 3 Cummins DSGAC-150 gensets (datasheet in the excel file). The customer is sourcing diesel at $1/L and has to purchase new gensets every 5yrs at a cost of $0.4/W. A project developer wants to add PV and storage to offset a portion of, if not the entire, diesel usage. The attached document also contains PV production for a 100kW PV system but it may be scaled up or down as necessary. PV LCOE on this island is 5c/kWh. Installed battery costs start at $500/kWh for a 2hr system with a $25/kWh addition for every additional hour of storage required. What is the most optimal solution for customer? Please state all assumptions. CASE PROMPT 2: Stabilizing the Grid A project developer plans to install a 50 MW system in the NEM to participate in frequency regulation services (FCAS). The project developer has secured a site and grid interconnection to the 115 kV network of the Queensland Powerlink network. Question 1: The project developer wants to achieve 50 MW / 100MWh at the Connection Point (115 kV). How would you size the system: number of Megapack units, and nameplate ratings (kVA/kW/kWh) of the Megapack units? Below is an extract from Megapack datasheet: The Megapack is a modular system, it is possible to install more or less battery modules (kW / kWh increment) and inverter modules (kVA increment). Question 2: What questions would you ask the project developer to assess the suitability of the site they have chosen, identify risks that could affect the project deployment or operation, and gather the necessary input for a conceptual design? CASE PROMPT 3: Contracting Roundtrip Efficiency A customer has requested Tesla to provide a round-trip efficiency guarantee: demonstrating the efficiency of the system at time of commissioning. The Megapack system being an AC-integrated system, the round-trip efficiency will be guaranteed on the AC side of the Megapack inverter terminals over a full charge/discharge cycle.
