The time and effort will be clear only upon your SoW and what different peripherals are there in your custom device and it also matters which platform you have used as a baseline. More that number of peripherals same with your reference platform less will be the required effort. I have 7+ years of Linux customization experience on TI/Freescale/Qualcomm platforms.
