Hello, I really enjoyed writing the sample article and I feel confident that I can deliver on time. MANAGEMENT AND GOAL SETTING Management is the art of getting things done through people with the aim of achieving predetermined goals and objectives. The main functions of management are planning, organising, commanding, co-ordinating and controlling. Planning involves setting objectives as well as the strategies, policies, programmes and procedures for achieving them. Organising is necessary to delegate set tasks to various departments or people and hence ensure the achievement of set objectives. This will invariably involve commanding, which entails giving instructions to subordinates to carry out tasks and ensuring that those tasks are carried out. It is also necessary to ensure that the tasks ultimately lead to the achievement of the business’ goals; thus, all the activities need to be co-ordinated or brought together so that there is a common approach to accomplishing the tasks. Finally, management measures and if necessary, corrects the activities of individuals and groups to ensure that their performance fits in with the objectives. Goal setting is the focus of the theory of management proposed by Peter Drucker in 1954 known as Management by Objectives (MBO). Drucker suggested that a business should define objectives or targets for an individual to achieve and revise those targets after assessing the worker’s performance. The worker must have feedback on their performance and the progress they are making. The idea is that workers experience satisfaction form achieving specific goals and that the harder the goals, the greater the effort and satisfaction. The assumption behind the theory is that people will do what they say they will do, and strive hard to do it. The goals must be predetermined and achievable. According to Peter Drucker, managers have five main functions: Ø Setting objectives Ø Organising work Ø Motivating employees and communicating with them Ø Measuring job performance to ensure that objectives have been met Ø Developing people through training.

Management is termed as the art of driving people together to achieve the set targets and working towards common goals. Goals are the targets towards which any individual OR an organization works for. Setting realistic goals is as important as working towards achieving them . The set goals need to be high enough to portray what we would want to achieve. A better idea would be to pen down the goals on paper so that we have a steady vision of what is to achieved by us. We ,constantly need to measure ourselves against the set goals and align ourselves to practices which will facilitate us reach our goals. Reviewing the goals timely and aligning ourselves to the current changes will always help management in securing the highest position.

Here is my sample article - MANAGEMENT AND GOAL SETTING The word ‘manager’ originated from the fusion of two Latin words, ‘manu’ (meaning hand) and agere (meaning to lead). Hence, ‘manager’ is a person who leads by hand. This original definition has become quaint. Quite recently, the duties and responsibilities of a ‘manager’ are not limited to just leading a group of people. In the modern world, management includes goal setting, planning, organization, co-ordination and most importantly decision making. Ideal management requires all these activities to be performed in synchronization. Management is not something that needs to be done only by general managers, project managers or any professional manger in a company for that matter. In fact, each and every person in the world needs to understand and perform some or the other kind of ‘management’. For example, students need to manage their studies and businessmen need to manage their trade. Irrespective of the person involved in management, the guiding force behind management is always the same and that is - existence of a ‘goal’. For example, the goal is securing good grades in the case of a student and it is making high profits for a businessman. But mere existence of a goal is not enough. Goal setting will yield good results only if the goals are realistic, feasible and definite.
